How to Turn a Photo Into a 3D Model

Ways to turn a photo or idea into a print-ready 3D model — from manual modeling to 3D scanning — and how Thlath Abaad helps.

Many people have an idea or a photo and want to turn it into a real printed part. The question is always: how do you get from a 2D image to a 3D model? Here are the main ways.

1. Manual modeling (most accurate)

A designer rebuilds the shape in 3D software (CAD or digital sculpting) based on your photo or sketch. This gives the best quality and accuracy — ideal for engineering parts, figurines, and characters.

2. 3D scanning

If you already have the physical object, it can be scanned into a matching digital model. Useful for copying existing parts or spares.

3. Automatic photo-to-3D

Some tools convert an image to a model automatically, but the result is usually approximate and needs manual cleanup. Suitable for simple shapes only.

What we need from you

  • A clear photo or sketch of the idea
  • The approximate dimensions you need
  • The use case (decor / functional / gift)
  • Preferred material and color (if any)

At Thlath Abaad we model it, confirm the dimensions and details with you, then print it precisely. Send your photo on WhatsApp to get started.
